Senator Stewart Olsen is currently a member of two standing committees She sits on the Standing Senate Committee on Fisheries and Oceans, as well as the Standing Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology. Senator Stewart Olsen also sits on the Senate Modernization Committee (Special).

In the past, Senator Stewart Olsen has sat on the Standing Senate Committee for Aboriginal Peoples ,the Standing Senate Committee on Banking, Trade and Commerce ,the, Standing Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade ,the Standing Senate Committee on Internal Economy, Budgets and Administration , Standing Senate Committee on National Defense , Senate Subcommittee on Veterans Affairs and the Joint Interparliamentary Council

Fisheries and Oceans

The origins of the Senate Fisheries Committee date back to the 1980's. In 1986, the Senate decided, given the increasing importance of this area of public policy, to separate the Fisheries from the then-Standing Senate Committee on Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry.The Fisheries Committee has the mandate to study all issues related to fisheries and oceans. 

Social Affairs, Science and Technology

The Standing Senate Committee on Social Affairs is one of the older standing committees in the Senate. The Committee originally existed as the Senate Standing Committee on Public Health and Inspection of Food (1908).Social Affairs has the mandate to examine legislation and study issues related to cultural affairs and the arts, social and labour matters, health and wefare, and housing. It is also responsible for a number of other areas.
